Colorful Miami in the '80s-Themed Wedding at South Shore Yacht Club

Olivia and Connor met on a dating app in 2020 when she lived in Beverly, Massachusetts, and he lived just outside of NYC. They started out as friends but fell for each other after their first date. After a few months of long-distance, Connor joined Olivia in Beverley. Realizing how perfect they were for each other, it wasn’t long before they started to discuss engagement rings.

In the rose garden where he and Olivia watched fireworks on their first date, Connor proposed with his grandmother’s ring. Although Olivia saw it coming, it was still the sweetest moment.

This wedding is dear to our hearts because the bride is one of Elegant Aura’s very own! Olivia started working for us as an intern and quickly achieved the title of Senior Lead Planner. Six years later, it was her turn to say “I do,” and she fully embraced her unique vision. It was the honor of a lifetime to plan her wedding at South Shore Yacht Club and witness the union of this beautiful couple!

Retro Miami-Inspired Wedding Day Details

Olivia and Connor wanted a vibrant and fun wedding day to match their personalities, and Olivia is obsessed with the aesthetic of 1980s Miami. Accordingly, they landed on their theme of Miami Vice meets The Birdcage! We loved that they weren’t afraid to use color to transform the South Shore Yacht Club into the reception venue of their dreams. Instead of traditional escort cards, Olivia designed and made hotel keychains with each guest’s name and table number. To match the neon sign hanging over their sweetheart table, she also sourced mini neon signs to use as glow-in-the-dark table numbers. And, for added retro flair, all of their signage featured lyrics from iconic ‘80s songs (“Love Shack,” anyone?).

Whitemoss & Twigs also brought the couple’s vision to life with stunning, tropical-inspired florals! A combination of tall centerpieces and bud vases, with spray-painted anthurium, palm leaves, and pink astilbe, filled the space with life and color. Additionally, Olivia’s breathtaking bouquet stole the show all day long. With a mixture of painted anthurium, roses, astilbe, and feathers in striking shades of neon blue, orange, pink, and lavender, it was unlike any bridal bouquet we’d seen.

An ‘80s-Inspired Wedding Gown and a Neon Wedding Party

However, the colorful ‘80s vibes didn’t end there! Olivia’s Essense of Australia gown from Madeleine’s Daughter was a nod to the era with puffy sleeves styled off-the-shoulder for a modern twist. Since sleeves weren’t a part of the original design, the bride had them custom-made by Amelia of The Altered State. With miniature bows and volume that would make any ‘80s prom queen jealous, we loved what they added to the look.

Meanwhile, Connor made his own statement in a unique mint green suit from Suitable. And while his wedding party toned down the color palette in tan linen-blend suits, Olivia’s wedding party was another story. Each member wore a different, brightly-colored gown to form a neon-inspired palette of coral, pink, orange, lavender, and electric blue. Everyone also carried a coordinating bouquet, and the effect was stunning!

At-Home Ceremony and South Shore Yacht Club Reception

The couple’s overarching goal for their wedding day was to aim for a nostalgic and sentimental feel without breaking the bank. Olivia’s dream was to get married in her parent’s living room, where so many of her core memories had already taken place. So, she got ready with her wedding party in the upstairs bedrooms—just as her own mother did as a bride. She and Connor said their vows in front of the fireplace in the sweetest and most intimate ceremony. Afterward, they cruised around Olivia’s hometown in a pink vintage Cadillac before heading for the South Shore Yacht Club.

While the couple initially planned for a backyard reception at Olivia’s parent’s home, they decided to take the less laborious route and rent out a venue. However, they didn’t want to sacrifice the sentimental aspect of their ceremony, so they opted to host their reception at the yacht club where Olivia’s parents and grandparents have been members her entire life. The combination of fond summer memories and spectacular ocean views made it the ideal destination. The couple even managed to snag a few photos on the family boat with Thalia Catheryn Photography.

From start to finish, Olivia and Connor’s wedding at South Shore Yacht Club was the best day of their lives!
