HOW TO GIVE YOUR GROOM STYLE
How to give your groom style whether your wedding is in downtown Boston or in a garden, or on the beach. The groom’s style is often overlooked or not celebrated as much as the brides. Years ago, we started Tuesdays-Groomsday to honor our stylish grooms. Each week we post an image highlighting all the unique ways of making grooms fashionable.
On her wedding day, a bride’s attire is meticulously curated. She finds the perfect dress, the perfect shoes, and the perfect accessories to fit her personality, style, and vision. And she should. As a former bride, I can attest to this.
PLANNING MY GROOM’S LOOK
I spent months searching for the right asymmetrical-sweetheart top-beach-appropriate dress for my wedding. However, I also devoted a lot of time looking for the right attire for my fiancé. We planned a July wedding, on the beach, in South Carolina. Needless to say, it’s pretty hot in the south in July, so we wanted to be sure he was comfortable.
We knew we wanted him to wear a white linen shirt and white linen shorts, which seems easy enough. However, finding the right pieces, that looked good together without being matchy-matchy, took a bit of research. He thought this seemed silly but agreed the search was worth it when the pieces arrived, and he looked sharp! Eventually, he got on the wedding-attire bandwagon and found pineapple-patterned undergarments that matched our wedding theme!! Ultimately, we found all the right essentials for both of us and had a beautiful (and comfortable) ocean-side wedding.
No matter the location of a wedding or the level of formality, we think it’s equally as fun to dress up the men!
WHERE TO START STYLING
Starting with the foundation, is he wearing a tuxedo or a suit. A classic black tuxedo will always be classic, but why not try a navy tux? Still classic, and super chic, the navy tuxedo is perfect for spring and summer weddings. Not a formal wedding? Consider textured gray, light blue or tan suits for spring and summer, and darker versions for fall and winter weddings. We’re huge fans of The Groomsman Suit when looking at the groom’s attire.
If your groom is adventurous and wants to add has his own style like a vintage burgundy tux or a velvet Blackwatch tuxedo, then go for it! He could wear more eclectic choices but still, be VERY chic.
GROOM’S ACCESSORIES
When it comes to accessories, give your groom style. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, and don’t be afraid of colors and prints. There are so many resources for finding unique ties, socks, cufflinks and pocket squares. You can find great inspiration from the Tie Bar.
A white shirt is not your only option either. Why not get creative with a colored shirt or better yet, one with a gentle pattern? Let him be unique, let him stand out (even though the bride is the star of the day!).
